Staff Engineer, Mechanical

Job DescriptionDUTIES:
Design and develop instrument applications for Thermo Fisher's world-class qPCR, Capillary Electrophoresis, Rapid DNA, and Microarray platforms in both RUO and IVD markets.
Work with a dynamic cross-functional team of highly technical and specialized engineering professionals and scientists to develop exciting new genetic analysis instruments.
Design, develop, test and integrate opto-mechanical subsystems into new instrument platforms.
Create manufacturing drawings and documentation by using general drafting practices and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME/ANSI standards.
Apply fabrication techniques including casting, plastic injection molding, 3D printing, sheet metal fabrication, as well as traditional machining methods.
Assess new technologies and incorporate them into your design.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field of study plus 7 years of experience in the job offered, or 7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, or any position in which the required experience can be obtained, or related experience.
Employer will also accept a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related field of study plus 5 years in the job offered, or 5 years in mechanical engineering or any position in which the required experience can be obtained, or related experience.
Must have experience or knowledge of:
Optomechanical design, packing and assembly;SolidWorks or other 3-D CAD package;Manufacturing drawings and documentation;Complex optical systems and components;Rotational and translational stages of optical systems;UL/CE/TUV regulations;EMI reduction;DFMEA/DFM/DFS;Design for Six Sigma (DFSS); andStructural and thermal modeling.
Travel:
Up to 15% domestic and international travel required.
Salary:
